The Rolly Pulaski Commercial Tour

Once again we were invited by our friend, architect Rolly Pulaski, to take a look at some of the buildings he has designed.  This time, we got to take an inside look at some of the commercial buildings he has designed in Orange County.  We started off in Costa Mesa and ended with lunch at Bistango, one of the restaurants Rolly designed, and one of our new favorite places to dine. Take a look at some of the pics below.  We were impressed and know you will be too!  You may even recognize some of the buildings...

Mary Poppins

In July we were invited by our colleague to see Mary Poppins at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.  It was a great time, a fantastic show, and we even got to see an old friend!

Have you seen any shows recently?  We would love to hear about it!

Our Day with Architect Rolly Pulaski

On a beautiful, sunny southern California afternoon in May, Orange County Architect Rolly Pulaski took us on a tour of homes he designed in Newport Beach.

We met at Promelis Market in Costa Mesa, and from there began our day-long architectural adventure.

The first home we visited was that of a young artist and his family who, when remodeling their home, wanted a mid-century modern design.  They met Rolly, and were thankful they found the right architect for them!

As Rolly got to know his new clients, they discovered that one of his designs was highlighted in a book on mid-century architecture.  More amazing, it was a drawing Rolly created while interning during his college days.

Next we did a drive-by of a couple homes Rolly redesigned.

Rolly redesigned both the exterior and interior of the next home we visited, including the back yard, garden and pool areas.

We then ventured to several more properties Rolly redesigned, before heading to lunch.

We dined at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club, the oldest yacht club in Newport Beach, and one in which Rolly redesigned their entrance hallway and the bar.

After lunch we went to two more locations.  One of the most amazing tributes to Rolly's work and his integrity, is that he remains close friends with the majority of his clients.

After a spectacular day of viewing beautiful homes, we headed back to Promelis to part ways.  The only thing we wished was different: not having to go back to the office....

East Bay - The Write Way Way...

We had a great time meeting with designers, artists and friends last week in Berkeley, CA.

First, we stopped in and visited with Ann Steinberg, a local Bay area designer and artist.

Then we headed out and had some Banzai Sushi.
 Mmmm....sushi...

We attended a poetry reading on Friday night at Zughaus Gallery, and spent a lovely evening listening to poetry and spending time with fellow writers.
We had great luck thrifting in Marin on Saturday afternoon, and came home with a new Burberry silk scarf and our friend went home with an amazing Jeremy Scott sweater!

Saturday night we got to spend time with an old friend, and fellow comic-book lover, and went to see Thor in 3-D in Emeryville.

We finished the night off with some traditional Japanese cuisine at Ochame, one of our all-time favorite restaurants, on Fourth Street in Berkeley.
Alas, all trips must come to an end, and on Sunday, we headed back to the south land.

What were you up to this weekend?  We would love to hear about it!!
